Here's how various Composers did in 2011.. Its just my personal take on all of them.

A R Rahman

Albums : Rockstar
The only album for him in the year, and yet the effect it had on all the music lovers. With every new album, he tries to outdo his previous work. It was in Delhi6 last time, when he gave such a outstanding album, where it was tough to point out single average song. Plus, the fact that 9 of the 11 songs are sung by Mohit Chauhan, and yet the 'boring' word never comes into action while listening any of the songs, tells a fact that how good Rahman was in his compositions. He has given a music, that's gonna stay with me atleast forever.

Ajay-Atul

Albums : Singham, My Friend Pinto and Agneepath
The lovely music of singham was quite a surprise for me, especially 'Saathiya' and title. While, Dhinchak zindagi was highly addictive and energetic in 'My friend Pinto'. And their big project 'Agneepath', has 2 awesome songs 'Shah ka rutba' and 'Devo shree ganesha', while 'Chikni chameli' despite a great composition turns pretty average due to taking Shreya as the singer, misfit for this song. On the whole, Ajay-Atul had a eventful year, might be worth to listen in future years.

Amit Trivedi

Albums : I am, Chillar Party and Ek main aur ek Tu
He composed just two songs in 'I am', out of which only Baangur was nice. Chillar party I didn't listen, the only song I heard was 'tai tai fish' which was indeed lovely. Ek main aur ek Tu has 2 great tracks, title one and 'Aahtein', while 'Gubbaare' and 'Kar chalna shuru tu' fails to make a mark. On the whole, Amit Trivedi didn't have a great year this time around, after rocking last two years.

Himesh Reshammiya

Albums : Bodyguard and Damadamm
At first, Bodyguard music didn't impress me. But with time, I started to like it, especially teri meri and desi beats. And the title song appeared better once saw the film. Only problem with Himesh I found in the album was, when would he stop unplugged, remix songs in the trackslist, we are happy with normal original songs, and if you wanna give reprise versions then most welcome. While only 2 songs, 'Madhushala' and 'Bhool jaayun' were worth listening in Damadamm, a dissappointing album it turned out to me. Overall, a mix year for Himesh Reshmmiya. The same advice as always - forget acting, and you will be back to track.

Mithoon

Albums : Murder2
He should compose albums more often, hope Bhatts take him after watching the kind of success his songs got. He did only 2 songs in the album 'aye khuda' and 'phir mohabbat', and these two were the best songs of the album though I liked other songs too, but the magnitude of these two songs is immense. Mithoon's music always takes you to a higher emotional level, a thing I love in M M Kreem's music too. Without a doubt, superb year for Mithoon.

Pritam Chakraborty

Albums : United Six, Thank You, Dum Maaro Dum, Kucch Luv Jaisaa, Ready, Always kabhi kabhi, Bodyguard, Mausam, Tell me o Khuda, Desi Boyz and Players.
Phew! Isn't he like Akshay kumar, too many albums.  in total 10, with guest composer in bodyguard. Interestingly, his song 'I love you' in that film is the one I loved the most. While, Mausam would easily be his best work in 2011, songs like 'Rabba main toh mar gaya, saj dhaj ke and mallo malli especially'. Players had 2-3 good time-pass tracks, with Mohit's romantic 'dil beqarar' best of all. Thank You, Ready and Desi Boyz were appealing, giving good dance numbers. Dum Maaro Dum worked for me apart from the title track, again the failure were lyrics there, not pritam. Jiyein kyun was a very good composition.  Rest Albums, I didn't listen. As always, he may be lifting songs from places, but he is giving great music every now and then. Another great year for him.

Salim-Suleiman

Albums : Love Breakups Zindagi, Aazaan, Shakal pe mat Ja and Ladies vs Ricky Bahl
Their music was excellent in Love Breakups Zindagi as well as Ladies vs Ricky Bahl. Though, I would chose LBZ over LvRB. Chayee hai tanhaayee, the old retro dil bahalta hai mera aapke aa jaane se, love love love all were wonderful. And jigda so much re-created the 'ainvayi ainayi' fever of last year. Aazaan didn't impress me at all, while didn't hear Shakal pe mat Ja. So, They had  good 2011 too.

Shankar Ehsaan Loy

Albums : Patiala House, Game, Zokkomon, Aarakshan and Don2
I didn't listen zokkomon. Patiala House had two good tracks 'kyun main jaagoon' and 'Rola pe gaya', while Aadat hai woh is decent. Game had just one decent song 'Mehki mehki'. Aarakshan also was just one very good song, no doubt a brilliant composition it was 'acha lagta hai'. Don2 was a better album, though most of the songs were lovable with the movie or after watching the movie. The retro feel was captured through 'zara dil ko thaam lo', good composition though took time to love it. Only had they don better work the title song composition, the sole dissappointment of the album. Overall, shankar ehsan loy had a pretty average year, only Don2 lifted their year to a certain extent.

Toshi-Sharib

Albums : Phhir and Ghost
After storming into the music industry in 2009, they have had two quiet years now. Only two albums this year, out of which Phirr was decent enough, 'Satrangi saathiya', 'Yaadein' and 'Love is all I got' are pretty nice songs. But in comparison to their hit albums, this album falls short of expectations.  Ghost was pretty much a forgettable album. Hope, they are back with bang sooner even if its with a Bhatt film.

Vishal Bharadwaj

Albums : 7 Khoon Maaf
Just single album in the year, and yet it was a memorable one for me. Loved almost all songs except for Bekaaran. I like his compositions, they are bit poetic, and some have unusual madness.. for instance O Mama. Awaara was my fav track from the film, among top5 songs of 2011 too. And there's always one chartbuster song in his compositions, like dhan te nan.. this time it was 'Darling'. One of best works of 2011, 7 Khoon maaf was!

Vishal Shekhar

Albums : Bbuddah hoga tera baap, Rascals, Ra.One and The Dirty Picture
Ra.One without a doubt was their best work this year, among the best of 2011. They might even win awards for it, the famous 'Chamak challo' from the album, but special mention to two under-rated tracks 'Bhare naina' and 'Raftaarein', the former was very touching song with those english lines in  between, while the latter was a good tribute to r.d burman. Rascals appealed only for the title song, while The Dirty Picture had 2 good tracks in form of 'Oh laa laa' and 'Ishq Sufiyaana'. And I liked chandigarh di star song a lot too in bbuddah hoga tera baap, while the title and meera were good too. On the whole, 2011 was a very good year for Vishal Shekhar.
