Music Review : Rockstar

His last three albums were 'Blue', 'Jhootha Hi Sahi' and 'Raavan'. While, he was good in all, specially the latter two. He was yet below the kind of work he did in Delhi6 or pre Delhi6. Plus, these three albums didn't appeal to the masses, which his previous albums were doing. Rahman's working way is simple, as I just read in a interview recently - 'I make music, you like it, you take it, you don't like it, don't take it. I keep making music and I like doing it.'

The album has 11 tracks and with 3 background themes. Also, read in one interview, there will be 6-7 extra music pieces to hear in the film too. By now, you can easily guess, this is a completely musical film, and in safe hands of Imtiaz Ali.

You always have a long list of singers to sing in a album, ofcourse deep inside a voice says, come on give my fav singer more songs in this album. But you crave for variety always. In that case, you will be dissappointed. Mohit Chauhan has been kept as the voice of Jordan(Ranbir Kapoor) in the film. Hence, whenever Jordan will sing in the film, the voice behind it will always be of Mohit. Out of 11 tracks, 9 are from Mohit himself. While 2 are entirely female tracks. Karthik, Javed Ali and AR Rahman give company to Mohit in some tracks.

Saadda Haq
'I have the right to be myself and I will claim my right.'

The song has a angst feeling right from the moment the song begins, from the use of guitar, to the words, to the composition and to the way its sung. Jordan here questions the world, he must have been dissappointed by the society, by the people a lot. His only fault was, he tried to be himself. He wants to live the way he wants, and no one has the right to tell him how he has to live.

High guitar to begin the song, then a complete change in variation of guitar, and drums start as Mohit Chauhan begins 'tum logo ki iss duniya mein' ...  In lines 'Mann bole, mann bole.. mann se jeena ya mar jaana', Jordan conveys, how he wants to live. There are 2 versions in the song, in first half, he just questions everyone, as his anger is slowly coming out. Then, there is a 'no singing' 43 second piece, which then leads to a new tempo. And now we have Jordan, who has conveyed enough with a anger that was visible but restricted, He is about to unleash much more now to the people who questioned him or his deeds, and look how he does it, 'O ecofriendly nature ke rakshak, main bhi hoon nature.. Tera DARR, Tera PYAAR, Teri WAAH tu hi RAKH, RAKH SAALA'. He has told them now, that I dont need ur hatred, ur love, ur appreciation, I am free from you all now. Mohit Chauhan's singing,  guitar work by Orianthi, use of drums,  lyrics by Irshad..  everything contributes to a great composition by Rahman. Epic Song!

Jo Bhi Main
'I wanna say so much to you, but I am not able to tell them properly through my words'.

Here, Jordan is travelling(as seen in promo and read in a article), he is trying to communicate with new and different people. The song goes deeper into the thoughts of Jordan about this world with 'kabhi mujhe lage ke jaise, saara hi yeh jahan hai jaadu, jo hai bhi aur nahi bhi hai yeh'. Continuing further, he says 'maine yeh bhi socha hai aksar, tu bhi main bhi, sab hi hai sheeshe.. khud hi ko hum sabhi mein dekhe'... as he believes we should try to see our image in other people, to make this a beautiful world. And finally ends with 'mujhe paana, paana hai khud ko'.. as his entire journey is more of to discover himself in this world, and not the world.

The song begins with a guitar, and alaap of 'ya ya ya .. o ho ho o o', and Mohit takes over with 'Jo bhi main kehna chahun, barbaad kare alfaaz mere'. Also, 'cha na na cha na na ' alaap used very well after end of 1st part of song. And then a work with guitar in final secs of song, along with crowd chorus. Yet again, Wonderful Composition by Rahman.

Tum Ho
'You are here with me, You will always stay with me. You are mine.'

Jordan dedicates this song to Heer, the love of his life. He tells his feelings, the kind of deep love he is in with her through 'tumko jitna mehsoos karu, utna hi paa bhi lun'. The level of romance increases in 2nd part as Jordan says 'kahin se kahin ko bhi aao bewajah chale, pooche bina kisi se, hum mile'. And in final part, he tells that the world can't snatch her away from him, as she is very much a part of his soul now... 'Tum.. bhi ho main'.

Mohit Chauhan revisits you to 'Tumse hi' days, with this track. His voice makes 'Tum ho' very romantic. Special mention to the alaap 'ho ho ho ... tum hoo o  o o  o' , the song begins with it, and it comes two times more in the song. Also, the female chorals used in the song gives it a added romantic touch. The song would be loved a lot by romantic music lovers, as it has every ingedrient from romantic lyrics to the soulful feel to the composition that keeps the mood throughout the track.

Nadaan Parindey
'Come back to your home, how much will you run away..'

AR Rahman sings major portion of the track, so Jordan wont be seen singing it. It would be a song based on Jordan, pretty much as a background, with few lines(significant) sung by Jordan too in the end. There is a certain appeal made to Jordan in this song, to come back to his home, to stop all the travelling. 'Sau dard badan pe pheley hai, har karm ke kapde mailey hai' .. you have suffered a lot, and hence need to move away..  'koi bhi le rasta, tu hai tu main basta, apne hi ghar ayega tu'.. whatever path you follow, your identity is always going to be 'you'. And then the lines Jordan sings 'kaga re kaga mori itni araj tose, chun chun khaiyo maas, arajiya re, khayion na tu naina more, piya ke milan ki aas' , Requesting to the bird, to eat his body's flesh but not his eyes, as he wishes to see Heer through them.

The song begins with guitar, and the drum beats takes it to a feel of request as the whole song is based on. 'ghar aaja, ghar aaja, ghar aaja, ghar aaja', repitition of these 2 words by rahman gives more impact to the request. The final lines by Mohit, one may argue shifts the composition a bit, but the context if referred to would give it a deeper meaning and very romantic too. Superb work by Rahman once again!

Kun Faaya Kun
'Be it is.. you accepted me, when no one liked me.'

Whenever its a religious or divine kind of song.. I get very conscious because I dont easily connect to them being a non-religious person. I didnt have any great liking for the song Rahman did in Delhi6 either. But here, he completely gives me goosebumps with this song.  Rahman and Javed begin this qawalli, where Jordan has come to seek blessing or to stay as he is homeless(as seen in promos). 'jab kahin pe kuch nahi bhi nahi tha, wahin tha, wahin tha, wahin tha'..

Just like the last song, Rahman changes gears in this composition, taking the song to a new level. Here, it happens twice. Once when Mohit i.e Jordan enters the song, and 2nd, when Javed Ali builds a high tempo portraying what Jordan now feels about the dargah where he has been now living since some time and become a part of it. 'kar de mujhe mujhse hi rihaa.. mujhse hi rihaa', Jordan wants to meet with himself, by being himself. And 'tu ne mujhe banaya, main toh jag ko na bhaaya, tu ne gale se lagaya, haq tu hi hai khudaya'.. you accepted me, you have every right on me. Also, special mention to tablaJaved Ali, Mohit Chauhan and Rahman together bring that divine feeling in this fantastic composition.

Sheher Mein
'I am in your city, come and meet me atleast.'

Now, an album without a track that has Rahman written all over it, in terms of complete experimentation would be incomplete. So, this track fills that void. When was the last time, you heard a song composed about 3 people, one composer, 1 singer and 1 lyricist(I am assuming else another singer it would be) discussing how the song should be sung, with their comments along side.. all this made into one composition. That is 'Sheher mein'.

Karthik begins the song, a comment comes from the composer about how well he sang. Mohit i.e Jordan's turn to sing.. but the composer feels sur missing. Composer praises the lyricist, whenever he sings the song i.e Karthik. When Jordan sings again, composer again dislikes with 'Tum sun nahi rahe ho yaar..'.  Now, composer asks Mohit to increase the last word alaap. That's another of my fav part from the song. Then, comes the re-tone part. In terms of lyrics, the song is limited.. its pretty much a situational song, which would be a practice song for Jordan at a particular phase of his musical life. This track is bound to be loved by the people who are aware of  experiments Rahman does in a particular song deliberately.

Tum Ko
'No need to find me as now you will find me everywhere.. I am there with you'.

This is female version of 'Tum Ho'. Infact, it can be slighly referred as girl's answer to the boy's feelings in the other song.. but not completely, as lyrics differ at places. One familiar thing in this song is the same alaap 'ho o o o oo o .. tum ho o  oo o'. The song presents Heer's feelings for Jordan. It may come in film when they are together, or it may come when Jordan has gone far away(which is most likely in my view). 'Tum ho, tabhi toh .. kahin bhi ab na dhoondhna mujhe, main har jagah milungi tujhe'  and 'Tum ko, paa hi liya, maine yoon, jaise main hoon ehsaas tera'.. both lines presents how much the love is from girl's side too after we heard Jordan before.

The song begins more on a light note, with just background, no use of instruments.. and once Kavita completes 1st few lines, sarangi and tabla combo make a terrific feel, I would go on to say a bit of classical touch comes through it. Also, this is one of the few female songs in the album, and Kavita Subramanium does full justice to the track.

Aur Ho
'I feel uncomfortable, I am not able to think what I should do, I feel helpless'.

The song reflects the feelings of Jordan, who wants to get lost into Heer completely. He doesn't want to control his feelings, but he isn't sure what he should do in this moment... 'tujhe pehli baar main milta hoon har dafa, meri bebasi ka bayaan hai' .. his helplessness only increases. Infact the song can work in two ways, either it can be a romantic track between Jordan and Heer, getting close to each other or it can be a romantic-emotional track with Jordan and Heer away from each other.

'Rokey se na ruke na thake, aandhi si jo chale inn saanson ki, pata bhi na chale, kahan pe kya jale' .. the pain keeps increasing, Jordan doesn't know how to rest his feelings. Very Good composition again, Mohit sings it well with Alma giving female chorals at places. I feel the lyrics here overpowers the composition.

Kateya Karoon
'We are gonna have fultoo fun, non-stop masti. I love spending time with you'.

This is 2nd song of the album, where Jordan has no contribution in singing. Its Heer's fun song with Jordan, where she witnesses some 'masti' moments including some naughty ones with Jordan. She won't control herself, and do various activities that she may not have done before in her life. 'Hadh karun, hadh karun, mainu darr nahi hun jag da, tere layi hun jiyun te marun'.. Heer isn't afraid of anyone, she probably feels the love for Jordan for 1st time here.

Harshdeep Kaur has done good work with her singing. You would once again notice the Rahman's change of tempo in a song again here. As in the final minute, there is a complete change in background arrangements and the vocals too. This song would more or less be better with visuals than as a audio, mainly because the lyrics are bit repetitive, and a fun song always look good with visuals. (Its video is a proof as the song made more impact to me there than as audio it did)

Phir se Udh Chala
'I have given up on so many of my dreams, but they still fly along with me.. my journey has begun.'

Jordan has set himself on a journey, as he sings 'phir se udh chala udh ke chora hai jahan neeche'. He isnt going to stop anywhere.  'banu raavan, jiyu marr marr ke.. kabhi din hai raat, kabhi din din hai.' wonders Jordan as the memories of Heer try to change his way.

This could be the only song where the composition didn't impress me fully, the lyrics are super once more, and so is the way Mohit handles the vocals. The start and ending of the song is very good, its the arrangements done in the middle that leave lot more to desire for. But, I have a feeling this could be that one song like 'Main kya hoon of Love aaj Kal' with which you connect after watching the film much more.

Haawa Haawa
'Folk song on a story based on King and Queen'

Jordan attends a folk based culture place, and participates in this song that reflects Queen's state who likes to be free and not limited to King's place. Another song that I would like to see with visuals, there have been many songs before based on portraying a small story within a song. Composition is pretty good, like the way Rahman uses female chorals alongside Jordan, to present queen like the anger part.

The Dichotomy of Fame,Tango for Taj and The Meeting Place

You can only guess in what context Jordan says the dialogue 'pata hai yahan se bahut door, galat aur sahi ke paar, ek maidaan hai.. main wahan milunga tujhe'. It could be a real conversation with Heer or it could be a dreamy conversation too. Good background theme, focus kept mainly on dialogue, so less arrangements done in music, keeping it simple and soft romantic.

Tango for Taj is a good theme, though the middle portion is much better than the start or end.

The Dichotomy of Fame is the best out of all these 3 themes. It so easily signifies the rise of a person, i.e Jordan here. And I like that they used it entirely on basis of Shehnai, quite a experiment that.

One man I would like to give most credit which I gave less in all songs, would be 'Irshad Kamil'. He has written some wonderful lyrics for all songs, infact the latter songs in my review, its his lyrics that made me like those songs more than the compositions. While in 'Sadda Haq', 'Jo bhi main', 'Kun faaya kun' and 'Nadaan Parindey', he is simply fantaastic.

Overall, Rockstar album lives upto the expectations any Rahman music lover would have. There is not a single song that I didn't like at all in the whole album. As long as you can adjust with the voice behind Jordan, you are bound to accept Jordan and love his voice!

Verdict : Memorable

P.S - From this review onwards, I have started a new way of expressing my fav songs. I will always write about songs I love the most first, and slowly move to the ones I liked least.

This was my 100th blogpost, started since July, 2008 and still going. What I still desire for is 'Consistency'. The journey has just begun ...

Music Review : No One Killed Jessica

Amit Trivedi has build a certain reputation for me and many other people too. He is known to give hardhitting music and with a similar film in the name of "No One Killed Jessica", the expectations just doubles.

The album kicks off with, Aetbaar, sung by Vishal Dadlani, Mame Khan and Robert Omulo Bob. Its a loud pitch song that represents a person who is angry and sad as the person's belief/faith in a particular thing is broken off very badly. The song showcases the state of the person so beautifully with well written lyrics "Jal bhun ke raakh hua aetbaar, ganda majaak hua aetbaar". Special mention to the English part of the song and the starting tune used setting the mood up. In the film this song would probably come(if used) when Jessica's murderer is set free by the court or case is closed. One of my very favs!

Next comes, Yeh Pal, sung by Shilpa Rao. Not sure about its use in the film, but the song is about questioning your current life that has changed due to the latest incidents happened with you. Shilpa Rao specially is at her best in the antara part of the song. "Kya bataayen yeh rang bhari haseen titliyon si kabhi, rengte kechuyon jaisi toh nahi thi", Amitabh Bhattacharya at his innovative best in lyrics. The latter part of the song changes mode completely with a sudden change in pitch of the entire song as it totally goes into a instrumental for last 2 mins. This song has in it to make a mark, but thanks to the major impact of rest songs, this one will go un-noticed.

Aali Re, sung by a huge list of singers i.e Tochi Raina, Biswasjit Chakraborty, Shriram Iyer, Raja Hassan, Anushka Manchanda, Sonu Kakar, Aditi Singh Sharma and Sonika Sharma. This is a complete mad mad mad song. The starting of the song is bound to take you by a surprise, as the girls chorus sings "Dhinchak dhinchak dhinchak dhinchak rapa rap rak chika rak chika". The song as of now seems to be filmed on Rani as her introduction song representing the character traits with lines like "Thori si kameeni, thori namkeeni thori si nasheeli, thori zehreeli hai". The lyrics clearly are written accordingly, which may sound a bit wierd to few but they completely fit as per requirement of this song. Amit has this good habit I would say to go for a particular background theme within a song which he does here at 4th min of song, and its impressive one yet again! Just like the song starts, the girls chorus gives it a similar mad finish "Boom boom patakha de .. arrey dekh arrey dekh". Its quite a experimental track by amit that has come out brilliantly.

Next is, Dilli, sung by Tochi Raina, Shriram Iyer and Aditi Singh Sharma. Again what a stunning start to the song, slow build up and then the fast pacy beats as Aditi Singh gets into the song "da da da da dilli dilli ". Tochi takes over then in this rock kinda feel song with very high beats used all throughout the song. The song is a angry take on Delhi through the eyes of Sabrina in the film probably. I somehow couldnt connect properly with the lyrics of Antara, Amitabh Bhattacharya just overdid here I feel. Leaving asides that, its a very catchy track, you just cant resist the beats used here but make sure the volume of your speaker or headphone is as maximum as you can have. There is another version of this song "hardcore version", though it pretty much sounds same to me unless I am missing out something.

Last one in the album is, Dua Karo, by Meenal Jain, Joi Barua, Raman Mahadevan and Amitabh Bhattacharya. Its a song that is asking to say the things inside your heart, praying for a better future. The song might involve the India Gate candle scene by the looks of it. A very emotional feeling attached with this song specially the lines "guzaare kaise saja ke jaise, din ghamo ke lage arse, sab sajde mein, sajde mein, sajde mein.. dua karo". There is a slight resemblance with Amit's previous work that comes during the song when the tempo of the song goes from soft to high chorus. But as a whole, the song comes out very fresh and hence it evokes that emotional touch this song has in it. Special Mention to Meenal Jain who is very impressive in this track.

My Pick(s) : Aetbaar, Aali Re and Dilli

Overall, No one Killed Jessica is another gem of a album given by Amit Trivedi. It easily surpasses his other 2 works of this year and almost touches his magical work in Dev D. As per me, this album is completely worth it especially if you have liked Amit's work in Dev D and Udaan. To end the review with, unless any new mindblowing album comes out within next 25 days, No one Killed Jessica is the no.1 album of 2010!

Music Review : Jhootha hi Sahi

Cry Cry : Rashid Ali and Shreya Goshal
Very Different composition, a song that takes place as a conversation between lead actor and actress, where John trying to tell Pakhi that we people keep crying over small things, past life and etc etc. Rahman gives the song similar treatment as Tu hi meri dost with Rashid Ali over first major half of song and later Shreya joins in taking it to the end. Also, special mention to the trumpet(if I got it right) used in the song. The song though a fun based, has got a very good feel in it. It easily goes into the cheer you up kinda songs.

Maiya Yashoda (Jamuna Mix and Thames Mix): Javed Ali and Chinmayee
Its hard to review religious songs. Aneways, Both versions are quite similar except for some addtional beats used in thames mix. Chinmayee impresses the most in both songs, her  voice very much suits Pakhi. Its clearly visible when you listen song with Pakhi face as vision. Rahman does well but its not a song that I would remember much in a longer run.

Hello Hello : Karthik
A very tough song to compose. But nothing is tough when its Rahman the composer you got. The reason its tough is the fact that he uses telephone tunes and rings during the song along with the background instruments and vocals of Karthik, and they all together gel so well. Composing a song having that many variations can so easily go wrong, but not the case here. Only thing that does bug though is the use of "Hello Hello" lyrics a bit too much during the song. Otherwise, Karthik the singer and Rahman the composer impresses immensely here. Also, a mention to the lyrics, "Mujhse zara baatein karo, halki zara raatein karo, suraj ki pehli kirno se meri zindagi ko bharo".

Do Nishaaniyaan : Sonu Nigam
Typical Slow Addictive song from a rahman album. Keep listening it, until you fall in love with it. I would still say that it could had been better in terms of lyrics, though composition is brilliant. Kinda of romance with feelings and emotions through later stanzas. I think this is the "Kahin toh hogi" of Jhootha hi Sahi, which will grow more on you after film.

Pam Pa ra : Shreya Goshal
Its very rare when a shreya goshal solo track from a big album doesnt create any impact. And add to it the fact that the main background pieces from the 1st theatrical trailer are from this song only. But this song just doesnt impress, no matter how hard you try to. Only thing that I liked was all the background pieces that run throughout the song. The song would most probably be used after 1st phone call of Pakhi to John, when she shares her sorrows. May look better with visuals, as a audio not much.

I will be waiting : Vijay Yesudas
Combine "Tu bole(jaane tu ya jaane na) and Pari(saawariya)" and you get this song. No, I didnt mean that its a copy or inspired from them. Just that, the feel and rhythm of the song goes on the lines of those two songs. Its a touch slow but the mood is setup very well with the arrangements that the slowness never comes across. And then the trademark Rahman's use of just background in the final 1 min of the song without any vocals gives the song a very nice end just the way it started. Yesudas voice is very pleasant to the ears.

Do Nishaaniyan Reprise : Sonu Nigam
Sad version of the song, around 3 min long. Impressive, especially the lyrics "Main kaabil hi kab tha, teri chaahto ka.. hai jaayaz yeh tanhaaiyan". The background setup is exactly same as the original song, except for some additional background to make a emotional effect. Also, a alaap by sonu in the final portion of the song.

Call me Dil : Rashid Ali
Final song of the album, and guess what, here is the Best Song of the album. Just like "Rehna tu of Delhi6", Call me dil touches your soul. The song has the protaganist i.e John trying to convey that he may be a lier but his heart never lies. The song if used in the narration of the story in film, then would most likely be very emotional. Very good rendition by Rashid Ali, but full credits to Rahman and the lyricist for making this song special. "Pooche dil mera, kyun yeh saza, dil toh nadaan hai" .. If one may recall, Rahman added the title track on special request, which in this case is Call me dil only. So, special thanks to Rahman that he convinced Abbas for this song.

Overall, Jhootha hi Sahi, is not a typical Rahman album yet its a typical Rahman album. It falls short of last Rahman-Abbas combo Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na but as a new fresh album, Jhootha hi Sahi lives upto its reputation. Give it a long try, as the songs takes a while before making you like them a lot.

My Picks : Call me Dil, Cry Cry and Hello Hello.

Music Review : Striker

Starcast : Siddharth, Padmapriya, Nicolette Bird, Aditya Pancholi, Anupam Kher, Ankur Vikal, Seema Biswas.
Director : Chandan Arora
Music Director : Many(mentioned with each song)

Aim laga ungli chala
Singer- Blaaze, Composer - Blaaze, Lyrics - Nitin Raikwar, Blaaze
The song is like motivating a player in the game of carrom, the beats are nice though the rhthym and lyrics dont go well. As a background, the song may work though, else quite below the mark.
Verdict -> Below Average

Maula ajab teri karni maula
Singer - Swanand Kirkire, Composer - Swanand Kirkire, Lyrics - Swanand Kirkire
The song has religious sentiments as visible by the title. The lyrics are very good but a weak composition makes it very restrictive turning out to be a average song in the end. Swanand Kirkire has sung it quite well, though not among his bests.
Verdict -> Average

Pia saanvara tarsa raha
Singer - Sunidhi Chauhan, Composer - Shailendra Barve, Lyrics - Jitendra Joshi
Sunidhi has sung the song really well. I guess this song will be on Padmapriya describing her character. Lyrics are good. The song though requires a certain mood for repetitive listening.
Verdict -> Nice

Yun hua raat yeh
Singer - Vishal Bharadwaj, Composer - Vishal Bharadwaj, Lyrics - Gulzar
You expect awesome lyrics from Gulzar, and you get them in this song. You expect awesome composition from Vishal Bharadwaj and you dont get that this time. The song has too much of Kaminey meets U me aur hum in it throughout, so much that it fails to give a original impact. A song I wont like to remember. Sadly, its Siddharth's fav song from the film unfortunately not the same for me.
Verdict -> Below Average

Haq se le haq se
Singer - Siddharth and Yuvan, Composer - Yuvan Shankar Raja, Lyrics - Nitin Raikwar
Very good composition, the flute tune used in the starting of the song is really impressive. The lyrics though doesnt match up with the feel of the song at places.Siddharth and Yuvan has sung it quite well. The song is basically about 2 friends out of which one is telling other to play and win, only then the world will know you.
Verdict -> Good

Cham cham
Singer - Sonu Nigam, Composer - Shailendra Bharve, Lyrics - Jitendra Joshi
It wont be easy for anyone to tell that its sonu who has sung it if you dont reveal the name of singer and ask a person to listen this song. He so beautifully sings it in a different tone. The composition is beautiful and extremely romantic. The background vocals of "ra ra re ra rup tap ra re ra" make the song more loving. Even the lyrics are so romantic, with a line on the character for whom the male actor sings the song "noor barse nazar se noorie tujhmein basi hai meri jaan". The song tells the feelings of a boy who has just fallen in love.
Verdict -> Outstanding

Bombay bombay
Singer -> Siddharth, Composer - Amit Trivedi, Lyrics - Prashant Ingole
I really love when a song is done on a city or country. Be it govinda's bambai or Amrish puri's yeh mera india or Abhishek's yeh delhi hai mere yaar. And now, another one added to it, Bombay bombay(not Mumbai Mumbai) as the song is filmed on 1985 when it was Bombay only. Add to it that the composer is none other than Amit Trivedi. The composition though will remind you a bit of Aamir(rajeev khandelwal film) without a doubt. But the good thing is it doesnt last for long. The vocals by Siddharth surprised me, never knew he was so good in playback. He has some dialogues in starting, middle and end, and then ofcourse the rest is his singing part. While the song very well portrays the city, the city of dreams that never sleeps. Only wish I had was the song to be 1 min longer though its already a 5 min song, so being a touch greedy. /) The tunes used are fantastic especially during the starting, the song just makes u go mad.
Verdict -> Outstanding

My Picks :

Lyrics - Cham Cham, Maula and Yun Hua

Vocals - Sonu Nigam, Siddharth, Yuvan and Sunidhi Chauhan

Background Tunes - Bombay Bombay, Haq se and Cham cham.

Best Songs of Album : Cham Cham and Bombay Bombay

Overall, Striker is a refreshing album, with different type of songs from different composers. Some work while some dont, nevertheless the album is worth a listen.

Music Review : Kal Kissne Dekha

Aalam Guzarne ko - 5/5
Excellently sung by sonu nigam, very good lyrics and nice background score too.Love the part where sonu renders "tere bin raazi nahi".Romantic and sonu lovers should like this song.

Tere Bina lagta Nahi - 2.85/5
Nice song, lyrics could had been more better, Wajid sings it very well though but the song doesnt make impact, I think film ke saath it would go more well

Soniye Billori - 2.35/5
Sonu shouldnt had sung it, its Sukhwinder song I feel. Though he does well too but the song doesnt come out well.Suzy Q hardly has good lines in the song to get noticed. Composition is also okish.

Bin Tere Mar Jawan Main - 3/5
Just 1.30 min song, only good thing abt the song is the rendition by Shreya Goshal. Lyrics are nice not exceptional while Composition is good.Overall, a good song that could had been more better.

Kal Kissne Dekha - 2.65/5
Shaan's voice is way too loose during 1st para of song that gives such wrong impression of song, also the composition somehow resembles another song, which one that I cant figure out yet.. Shaan does pretty well in next 2 para's.Composition is again not good enough to impress.

Aasmaan Jhuk Gaya - 2.70/5
This time its composition that is weak in 1st para, but it manages to sustain quite well in latter part of song. Shaan impresses more to me in this song while Shreya is good too.

Kal Kissne Dekha(Romantic) - 2.40/5
Around 2 min song only, okish song at best.

Jashn Hai Josh Hai - 1.75/5
Below avg song.. Seems alisha chinoi will remain to be known by her kajra re song only, nothing impressive her in this song, infact neeraj sridhar n wajid sound better then her despite the fact that they get mic for hardly 30-40 secs.

Background Score - 2.5/5
Impressive in Aalam guzarne ko only, while good in parts in rest songs

Lyrics - 2.65/5
Again very good in aalam song while nice in tere bina lagta nahi

Vocals - 3.35/5
Sonu impresses in Aalam,Shaan is very good in Aasmaan while good in parts in Kal kissne dekha While Shreya impresses even in a 1.30 min song.Wajid is good in parts.

My Picks : Aalam Guzarne ko and Tere Bina Lagta Nahi

Recommendation : Probably, not a album to buy CD as Except for Sonu's Aalam, there is no potential song that could remain with you forever.

Music Review : Aloo Chaat

Aloo Chaat Rdb - 3.25/5
Typical background music in a rdb song which gets bit too loud at places, nindy kaur's voice is a mystery for me,I want to say its bad but still i end up liking her voice but still I dont quite find it match for song but still I keep hearing her part more in the song then rdb.The lyrics are very good, liked it.

Dhadke Jiya - 3/5
Nice romantic song, xulfi sings it well, might take time to catch on with more listenings.

Boliyaan - 4/5
Excellent,Nindy kaur excels in this punjabi track, ladies should love this track specially, the punjabi flavour is superb.

Boliyaan 1 - 3.75/5
The sudden fast version in middle n the starting way are the ones that differentiate it from 1st version,I personally loved 1st one more.

Aloo Chaat 1 - 2.5/5
Nice song, kailesh kher is fine nothing special this time.

Life is a Sizzling Aloo Chaat - 2.25/5
Okish song.

Background Music : 3.25/5
Specially due to Boliyaan n Dhadke Jiya

Lyrics : 3.5/5
Except Aloo chaat 1 and Life is sizzling, all have very good lyrics.

Vocals : 3.25/5
Nindy Kaur impresses and confuses, while Rdb is good but not brilliant this time,Kailash is fine,Xulfi is good while Kunal ganjawala is okish.

My Picks : Boliyaan Both Versions and Rdb's Aloo Chaat

Arziyaan - 4.75/5
At 1-2 minor places, the song slips else a very good 9 min rendition from Javed n Kailash and lyrics are worth a mention.

Delhi6 - 5/5
Now, here's A R Rehman for you, a composition that has to be loved.

Hey Kaala Bandar - 5/5
Another fantastic composition, note the part where naresh renders "Aayo hum sheesha dekhe" and then the latter fast version from him, simply supeerb.

Masakalli - 5/5
Mohit Chauhan impresses yet again this time in a different type of number, hakte song from his non stop romantic doses.

Dil Gira Dafatan - 4.85/5
And here we have, another set of new singers launched by Rahman and as always they leave a deep impact.

Rehna Tu - 5/5

Music Review : Chandni Chowk To China

Music Director : Shankar Ehsan Loy

Starcast : Akshay Kumar,Deepika Padukone,Ranvir Shorey.

Chandni Chowk To China - Akshay Rap

The song is special for one main reason and that is Akshay Kumar who is very energetic as always and same is visible in this song sung by him and add to it the song sort of reminds of akshay's own real life in terms of lyrics, Composition is quite good.
Verdict : EXCELLENT and CHARTBUSTER

Chak Lain de - Kailash Kher

Composed and sung by kailash, this is a complete motivational number that will be immensely loved when seen with Film, most certainly it will be a big twist in the film in favour of Siddhu(Akshay Character name). Lyrics are fully punjabi, the vocals of kailash goes lower in the latter part of song and then its given a high pitch with chorus in the background, If well picturised, this song would be one of best ones in the songs list of most motivational songs of bollywood.
Verdict : EXCELLENT

Chandni Chowk To China - Shankar Version

The lyrics are very funnily written and works big time just due to one reason and thats the composition of the song, brillaint work from Shankar yet again, not only the experiments done in the song are great but also he himself lifts the song with his voice a lot at many parts. Special mention to the accent Neeraj brings during closing part of song and the chini background reminding of china.
Verdict : EXCELLENT and CHARTBUSTER

India Se Aaya tera Dost - Bappi Lehri

The song is quite weak in terms of audio, its good in few parts, the composition also doesnt impress either. But still since its a reworked version of bombay se aaya mera dost, the song still isnt fully dull, and the song might work well with the film too.(I liked the song a lot in starting but with regular listenings sort of fount it below the mark).
Verdict : AVERAGE

Siddhu - Kailash Kher

Very ordinary song in terms of composition though the lyrics works again but they alone cant serve the purpose for a good song. Must be introductory song of Akshay in the film, preferrably a song to be heard with film rather as a audio track.
Verdict : BELOW AVERAGE

Tere Naina - Shankar and Shreya

Shreya impresses in this track while Shankar is good too though the composition fails to make any sort of impact on me at all. Overall, a song that might be liked by romantic music lovers though it didnt work for me.
Verdict : AVERAGE

Overall, The album is brillaint in parts and average in rest. Some songs would work after the film releases.

Best Tracks :
Chandni Chowk to China both versions and Phatte chak lain de.

Recommendation : Punjabi music lovers might get more attracted towards the music.

Music Review : Raaz - the mystery continues

Maahi (Original and Rock Version)

Toshi arrives in Bollywood Industry, with his 2nd song as a singer and how he impresses! Sharib-Toshi duo have given a excellent composition that starts off slowly and builds tempo within few secs with the vocals of Toshi. Special mention to Lyricst Sayeed Qadri who has done a tremendous job in writing down the lyrics for this song. A song that has got 2 versions both having different lyrics, one is original and normal version while the other is rock version. In the original Version, its a song where the lover is expressing the pain he has got in love, wanting to get his love back. While in the rock version, its about a lover who not only shows his pain before getting love but also his happiness after getting his love, the after effects of it are so well portrayed through the song. Both versions of song to be loved by one n all.
Verdict -> EXCELLENT and Sure Shot CHARTBUSTER

Soniyo (Sonu-Shreya-Neeraj version and Krishna)

A very sweet romantic number with english vocals being done by Neeraj sridhar but its Sonu that holds the song completely throughout with very good support from Shreya towards the end. Its a song where the lover is asking his love to be there with him always no matter what situation arrives in future. Full applause to Kumaar the lyricist for doing a wonderful job. Raju singh composition works fully, best thing is that the singers are so well used in the song according to the need.Everything just fits in. A song that would be loved by romantic music freaks especially.
Verdict -> EXCELLENT AND Sure Shot CHARTBUSTER

Krishna Version works more for its lyrics as again you get to hear new version though same composition but the effect Sonu-shreya-neeraj had that is missing in this solo krishna version.
Verdict -> NICE

Kaisa yeh Raaz Hai

The Title song starts off with the theme background music heard in theatrical trailer. And then you get to hear the vocals of Kay kay.Its not a hard discotheque mystery song like Shaher of Raaz. This song sort of goes well due to the theme of this Raaz Tmc as the song composition clearly shows how the person during the song is willing to find out the mysteries but not able to get positive results as the tagline of film says - The mystery continues. The song could be a treat to watch on screen if used well.Kay kay lends his voice very well as per need of the song from low pitch in start building it to higher pitches, from the trying to solve mystery to getting desperate mode, all can be seen in this version. And special mention to composer Pranay, the sounds of "he he he , ho ho ho " that you get to hear after vocals of Kay kay lifts the song completely into the top gear. The song wont be shown most probably so I guess, it wont leave much mark until the film releases. As a Music freak, a song to be loved.
Verdict - > EXCELLENT

O Jaana

Probably, the first track of the album that doesnt impress completely. The song is good in parts, the lyrics does full justice but somehow the vocals of Kay Kay goes a touch too loud. Also, at some places theThe song does demand a person madly in love trying to express how much he loves though, must be picturised on Adhyayan in a disco i guess so might make more impact with film. Overall, a track that's average as compared to rest songs. Its a song that wont be remembered for long.
Verdict -> ABOVE AVERAGE

O Banda Re

A devotional sort song with lots of mantras used in it.Krishna impresses this time with vocals while good lyrics and special mention to composer Gaurav, there is a special feel that is created in this composition. I have visualized this song as a person who has lost all his hopes and is asking God to help him out, could be the climax song that leads to mystery solved, would love to see if this interpretation gets right or not. Overall, a song that would work more after the film only with its video.
Verdict -> VERY GOOD

Overall, The expectations are fulfilled completely with the album.Soniyo(Sonu version) and Maahi(both versions) are instant winners. While Kaisa Yeh Raaz and O Banda re would take time to impress but they eventually will. O Jaana falls short.

Best Tracks :
Maahi and Soniyo

Recommendation : If you love romantic and emotional songs, this album should be your pick.
