Movie Analysis : Ferrari Ki Sawaari

Its a kind of film just like Taare Zameen par, which I liked but may not see again. The story of Kayo (Ritwik Sahore) and his dreams of playing cricket at Lords.

The poor angle of Kayo's father, Rusy (Sharman Joshi) though well written.. was over-dramatised in the screenplay. And Paresh Rawal for my liking wasn't required in the film, it did provide a end to the story.. but that somehow made it predictable and already seen in films.

There's lot of Raju Hirani cinema touch also in the film.. for instance when Rusy asks a traffic policeman to take fine from him for breaking a signal which only his son saw. One of best scenes in the movie.

As a debut, Rajesh Mapsukar made quite a good film. Though, he could had done away with some of the cliches and over-dramatic scenes.

Boman Irani is the real star of the movie, just loved his performance. The anger, the frustration, the emotions behind the anger, and the surprise on his face when he sees Kayo bat well against him.

Sharman Joshi was good, though in the climax I felt he went over the top.. He portrayed the nervous, scared father who wants his son dreams fulfilled but afraid to steal a ferrari very well.

The special apperance of Vidya Balan was ordinary. I felt vidya could had rejected this song, but most probably would had done it as token of friendship to Vidhu Vinod Chopra (those Parineeta days).

I liked the funny scenes between Deepak Shirke (Maama) and Aakash Dhabade (Mohan). Satyadeep Misra is decent.


Overall, Ferrari ki Sawaari is nice film.. specially for emotional film lovers (story based, not romance).

What kind of film would you make if given a chance ?

I made this poll last week, got 7 responses.. and this is how the final outcome was :

Genre based (commercial way) 85%
Masala based (action+drama+romance) 10%
Issue based (commercial) 5%

I expected genre based or masala based, one of them to get more votes.. and that's how it turned out to be. Though, I can't really generalise as 7 votes are too less. So, just gonna write my views on the topic.

My choice would be, 'Issue based (non-commercial)'.. having said that if at all I get a chance, my first would be genre based (non-commercial). In short, I wont prefer commercial cinema.. not one bit.

I agree most of our public goes to watch a film to get relaxed from their routine life. Most of our public wants to eat popcorn, sip drinks, laugh/cry at the cinema and while coming out of the theatre say the two words 'Paisa Vasool'. They want to see films having stories, that's fairy tale or the kind that won't happen in real.. but they wanna see it so that they can live that kind of life for 2-3 hrs in the theatre, for what ? Silly.

Do you really feel 'Films' should be limited to that ? I certainly feel not. Films for me are a medium to show what happens in real life, inspire people not to make same mistakes, and sometimes dark films helps us see ourselves, maybe even realize what and where we went wrong in our life to rectify it.

Its no longer 80's or 90's when films were only a means of entertainment. Times has changed, but the ratio is still in favour of people who prefer commercial cinema to the core. The day its ratio is minimised to say 20 or 30% I would say Indian cinema has finally reached the place it needs to.

The response to Shanghai was one of the best example, its non commercial way of showing reality that people couldn't accept. To add to it, I saw a moron on twitter who is a films writer saying 'Films are meant to be entertaining'. How would the audience improve, if some people present in the industry have such thinking.

I am not against commercial cinema, I see it too and I love it too. Only thing that fucking irritates me is, this cinema shouldn't dominate. I hope in next 10-15 years, the mind-sets change... it has to happen, whether it will.. can't predict.

Barfi [Trailer]

Anurag Basu, one of those directors whose work I am fond of. Kites which hardly anyone liked, I loved. And this trailer of 'Barfi' is a class apart.

It reminds me  of 'The Artist' (for being dialogueless), Charlie Chaplin (kind of comedy in trailer) and Dhobi Ghat (the background theme is touching). Love the flirting shot of Ranbir at 0:37, or the one where he tries to woo Ileana who by the way looks so cute in the whole trailer, my latest crush. Priyanka is finally back into a character that demands lots of effort, the kind of roles I prefer to see her do and she is looking totally into this Jhilmil character.

Ranbir so easily looks different from Rockstar, could well be another of his 'not to forget' performances. Fingers crossed.

The shot where he is showing his anger (probably at Ileana), makes me remember Raj Kapoor.. The background theme is too beautiful.

Since both Ranbir and Priyanka won't have dialogues, the major portion of film would be without any dialogues. So, that means commercially I doubt people gonna like it. Still, hope they do.. most of times people dissappoint me in such cases.

Only problem as of now I have with film is its music director Pritam, he hasn't been in form lately. Hope his songs appeal like those 'Life in a Metro, Tum Mile' way. Also, the poster is a big let down.

Ranbir-Priyanka and Anurag Basu, I can almost fully trust on and hope Ileana has good enough role so that people may notice her, and she bags more hindi films(crush bol raha hai jee). Ranbir magic is on.. Dont worry, be barfi.

Jism2 [Trailer]

I am not supposed to watch videos, a pattern I am following since months now. But, by mistake I happened to see this video promo of Jism2.. since it was the first video footage that was coming, and me being so excited forgot it was a song promo, not theatrical trailer. Aneways, moving to the trailer.. I was simply moved by this one, so much that the doubts I was having that this film may just be another hyped Murder2 types were somewhat taken aside.

The shots are so beautifully directed, atleast the ones used in this promo. Sri Lankan locations could actually be that awesome in a film. Plus, the in-form Randeep Hooda looks set to impress once again.. surely Pooja Bhatt would had given him larger role than Arunnoday Singh. I liked Arunnoday's work in 'Yeh Saali Zindagi' and in promo his expressions looking very apt.

Sunny Leone is very good in the shot where he turns on Arunnoday singh at a party. But, whether she holds for a entire movie remains a question, also how the dubbed voice of Pooja Bhatt would look on her.

Love the song completely, vocals of Ali Azmat and very good lyrics. The boldness in the shots from 1:42 especially made the promo excellent for me, specially the one where Arunnoday watches Sunny with torch, eyes full of lust. And the end with tagline 'To love her is to die'.

Regarding Sunny being a pornstar, I give a damn to such people. Her job here is to act in the film, and she's doing that. And being a pornstar isnt a sin for me.

Whether the film works for me or not I don't know, but this song promo did work.

Gangs of Wasseypur II [Trailer]

One of the fucking best trailer ever seen for me. The humourous touch in opening dialogue, or the one where Faisal replies to his wife's 'Hum maa banne wale hai' with 'Bacche ko bolna, abbu ne hello bola hain'. The shot of Faisal lighting cigg, and taking a quick recap of Part I with main shots within few secs. And then the dialogue introduction to all main characters, 'baap ka, dada ka, sabka badla lega tera faisal'. Perpendicular's dialogue is most funny. While Definite appears to be salman khan lover in the movie (just like Faisal and Mohsina are amitabh bachchan lovers).

The background song 'mera joota fake leather, dil cheecha leather' is simply addictive. Though, I loved 'Saiyyan kaala re' and 'jo bhi wrongwa' in the theatre released trailer too.

My fav part of trailer remains, the Joota loop followed by slow black and white motion of Faisal shooting (ala Godfather, Al Pacino holding gun shooting for 1st time), and then followed by 2 mad dance steps shots at bar.

They kept the humurous/action revenge feel throughout the trailer, and increased the madness with use of 'Joota' song or shots like 'Faisal' putting cigg in mouth in a stylish way (with the slow motion) and 2:43 night shot (which I still cant make out who both are, where he is cutting something).

This film looks to be double special than 1st Part. Can't wait for Aug 8th.

Movie Analysis : Maximum

Naseeruddin Shah : Tum humhe bhool jaayo, yeh haq hai tumko.. meri baat aur hai. Maine toh 
Sonu Sood            : Mohabbat ki hai ? Toh aayo, nibhayo mohabbat. 

Impressive star-cast, still the film didn't click because of a very slow screenplay, and a script that's very loose, the final 20 mins are plain stupid. I have seen director's make 3 hr long movies and still keep you engaged, and here a under 2 hr film fails to captivate you. Why did Kabeer opt to rush in the narrative all of a sudden in the end ?

As a director also, Kabeer fails in many sequences. Some scenes are needlessly kept long, while some should had been completely edited out. Pretty average Editing. Some of the dialogues are well written. Background score is decent.

The item song girl looks over-weight, though I like the song.

What is good about the film, is the performances..  Naseeruddin Shah shines as a bad cop (encounter specialist), love his scene with Sonu Sood "humne toh mohabbat ki hai", and then the scene with Amit Sadh "twinkle twinkle little star, How ? How ? aage kya tha".

Sonu Sood is impressive, I like the way he emotes through his eyes in some sequences, also his slow conversations with Amit Sadh.

Vinay Pathak once again proving, how good he is in non-comic roles.

Amit Sadh was very good, in a supporting role.. waiting to see how he does in next film 'Kai po che'.

Neha Dhupia was decent in a housewife role. Nice to see Mohan Agashe in a small role. Anjana Sukhani was kinda of in a friendly special appearance..


Overall, Maximum works only for the good performances. The story of rivalry between two cops, ends up neither realistic nor entertaining. Plus, the climax is a big let-down.

The Amazing Spiderman [Views]

Peter Parker : I have got to stop him, because I created him.
Gwen  Stacy : That's not your job .. 
Peter Parker : Maybe it is.. 

For me, this super-hero is first of a kind.. because I haven't seen any of the previous spiderman movies. As always, I wanted a super-hero film to be full of action, stunts and heroics. But, this film focussed a lot on relationship of Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen Stacey (Emma Stone). Also, the nerdy aspect of Peter, and the realisation of the powers he has just got. Inspite of that, I liked the film quite much.

Because its 1st film in the franchise, I can expect next one to be more pacy. The build up of character's has already happened in this part.

Background score by James Horner was superb. Dialogues were nice, though I felt the famous dialogue 'With great powers comes great responsibility' could had been retained. They instead, used it in a different way when Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) gives the advice to Parker.

Screenplay was touch slow, but as I said the kind of narrative Marc Webb wanted.. it was always gonna be that way. Still, the 2nd half does have a better pace.

Andrew Garfield, I felt was very good especially in the part where he realised that he has just got some power, and the fear of controlling that power in me was so brilliantly enacted by him. Also, the nerdy romantic talks, like the 1st conversation in class with Gwen, or the asking for date, or when he wants to tell her something but isn't able to tell. That last one was one of my fav scene from the movie.

Emma Stone is my new crush, loved her looks as well as her acting. She has nice comic timing too.

Rhys Ifans (Dr.Connors/Lizard) was the perfect villian, the 1st scene with Parker and then the converting into a lizard sequence was very good.

Irffan Khan was good, much better than Anil Kapoor did in MI4. Though, the point remains the same, Indian actors aren't going to get meaningful roles in a English film. As seen in this film, his role is very much edited out, there was meant to be a scene where Lizard attacks him too, but no where in the movie (Unless its to come in 2nd part, which I doubt). Still, he gets one key sequence in the movie that eventually leads to twist in the narrative. Though, his accent was little bit irritating, but acting was as always spot on.

Martin Sheen's comic was very good, and so were his advices to Parker. Denis Leary scene with Parker was good one.


Waiting for 2nd part of 'The Amazing Spiderman', hoping it would be more on to the battle between Spiderman and the evil, and less on Parker and Gwen.
