Movie Analysis : Vicky Donor

Directed by Shoojit Sircar
Imdb link -> https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2317337/

Sperm se thora upar aake dekho, heart naam ki cheez hoti hai.. what about love ?

Vicky Arora (Ayushmann Khurana), punjabi guy, is a bachelor, and jobless. He happens to meet Dr.Chaddha (Annu Kapoor) who wants help from him as he is in need of a sperm donor. After denying continuously, Vicky finally gives in citing the good money he would get for it, with a deal that it should always remain confidential. Vicky falls in love with a bengali girl, Ashima (Yami Gautam) and decides to marry her. But, what would happen when she comes to know the real profession of Vicky.. and would she accept him then ?

The screenplay is v.good, the first half totally hillarious. The second half do gets bit serious, but with decent dose of funny sequences. Another thing that I liked was, the message through the film without preaching it.

Excellent writing, the dialogues are connectable and very real, like the constant use of 'fuddu' and many other punjabi words.

The punjabi-bengali culture sequence, ashima's dad asking no drinks in marriage cut to expressions of Vicky's mom and grandmother cut to they dancing in marriage drinking, and every Vicky-Chaddha sequence were best moments from the film.

The songs are very well picturised especially pani da rang.. one of my most favs in the film and 'Rum Whisky' is hillariously used.

Ayushmann Khurana acted brilliantly, in this being debut film. Love the mischievous expression he has in many scenes. And he sings well too, pani da rang is one of best songs to have come out this year, also composed by him too. It would be interesting to see him in a non-punjabi role next, to test his acting skills.

How well Annu Kapoor gets into a new character, the dialect he catches up.. can't believe why the directors don't give him more opportunities. Easily among his best performances till date.

Yami Gautam acted well, looks good... but don't think the role was much challenging to tell much about her scope in hindi films. One scene she did mess up badly or maybe director handled her poorly was, where she shouts so loudly at Vicky when he reveals the truth.

Dolly Ahluwalia was amazing, even in her angry scenes she would make you laugh. Superb performer, and that imitation she does 'bandar jaise naachiyo type', too hillarious. Also, all those drink sequences.

Kamlesh Gill was superb, a supporter of Vicky, modern grandmother for him unlike his mom who takes time to understand. Love that scene where for first time, Kamlesh has to keep quiet and not support Vicky. Excellent acting!

Jayant Das was good as Ashima's father, the role looked perfectly suited for him.

Overall, Vicky Donor is a awesome film. Well written and great performances. Its a must watch!

Verdict : VERY GOOD

Movie Analysis : Tezz

Directed by Priyadarshan
Imdb link -> https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1706317/

Zindagi se jyada mohabbat nahi karni chahiye, aakhir mein sabse haseen dhokha zindagi hi deti hai...

I liked the trailer, but the film thanks to a weak 2nd half turned out to be average. The 1st half was entertaining only because the train sequences, and Aakash (Ajay Devgan) chase game from the police keeps you interested. But in the 2nd half, the film becomes slow, infact the interval sequence was the last good action scene in the film. The climax is very filmy, plus I couldn't sympathize with Aakash character. The direction of that part that made him take revenge should had made more impact, because the whole story is based on that incident only.

There's very good resemblance between Burning train and this film, specially the character of Boman whose child is in the train, and he has problems with his wife, plus he is in charge of train.. can't be coincidence, right?

Also, that scene where two trains at a particular speed are diverted, looks very fake to me. Is it really possible the way they showed to be happening in real ?

The sound-mixing isn't proper. Screenplay dissappoints, while Priyadarshan isn't at his best in direction, that touch of Aakrosh is missing. Also, the flashbacks slows down the narration. The songs aren't worth listening, except for Rahat one which is badly placed.

Ajay Devgan is good but the film offers very less scope for him to outshine in a weakly written and directed film.

Kangana Ranaut's performance is very average, almost wasted in the film. High time, she starts taking good films else she would come into the category of forgettable actresses.

Zayed Khan is decent. Boman Irani is good. Sameera Reddy is okay. Anil Kapoor is fine. Mohanlal I thought is famous actor in South ? If yes, then his fans must be dissappointed watching him in a nothing role.

Overall, Tezz is good till 1st half, after that you just wait for it to end.

Verdict : BELOW AVERAGE

Avengers [Views]

Directed by Joss Whedon
Imdb link -> https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0848228/

Stever Rogers : Doctor Banner, now might be a perfect time for you to get angry.
Bruce Banner : Oh, well, that's my secret, Captain. I am always angry.

For me, 'The Hulk', 'Iron-Man', 'Captain America', 'Thor', 'Hawk-Eye' and 'Black Widow' were new characters.. I never knew and I still didn't do any research to know where they came from.

I like the screenplay, small surprises keep coming your way, and ofcourse there is a sequel coming if you watch the end-credits properly. The director makes use of story and fight sequences very well. I for one believe a super-hero film should be 60% fights, and 40% story. And this film lives upto that concept.

Having seen the film twice, it was 'The Hulk' and 'Iron-Man' that appealed to me the most. More so because they got the powerful scenes, a super-hero should have which rest four hardly have. I like the way Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk) performs the scenes where he has to remain calm, so that the anger doesn't come out making him become that monster. And ofcourse, the way he beats the hell out of Loki was too good a scene.

Tom Hiddleston (Loki) acted very well too, plus I liked the walk he was given as well as the look. That scene where he tries to rule the people, with his get-up changing to his real one automatically, and the one where he reveals secret getting influenced by the drama of 'Black Widow', one of her best scenes.

Robert Downey (Iron-Man), whom I knew as sherlock till date.. quite a fan of his humurous acting, and in the film he was just the same usual, a unique thing about him is making funny lines funnier due to his style of enacting them.

Chris Evans (Captain America) looked the weakest of all the super-heroes to me, maybe thats how he is meant to be. Same the case for Jeremy Renner (Hawk-eye), though his arrow shoots were still worth it in the later part of the film. Scarlett Johannson looked great, but performance wise was just decent.

Rest cast were good in supporting roles.

The final 20 mins, and the post interval part were my favs in the film. Quite loved this film.

Movie Analysis : Hate Story

Directed by Vivek Agnihotri
Imdb link -> https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2309987/

I fuck the people who fuck with me ..

Whether you like the film or not, depends on how much you agree to the story of a girl who turns prostitute to seek revenge.

Kaavya Krishna (Paoli Dam) accepts Siddharth Dhanrajgir (Gulshan Devaiya) offer of a job in his Cementics company. She falls in love with Siddharth, only to find out that he was just using her as he doesn't like anyone fucking with his work or company which Kaavya did as a journalist. Kaavya is broken down with a series of incidents, and choses to take revenge destroying Siddharth's company, his attitude and him. She decides to become a prostitute, and reach out to Siddharth.

The screenplay I felt would had made film even more interesting if it was kept non-linear, with flashbacks. The 2nd half does have few surprises, with lots of erotic moments.

Also, I think the stammering of Siddharth when talking to his dad was over-done.. best would had been that he would talk in low voice with head down while talking to him.

The climax again was something I didn't like, pretty much reminded of Johnny Gaddar. Someone else taking revenge too! But then logically its not wrong, just that I would had preferred some other ending to the film.

I like the scene where Siddharth reveals his true-self to Kaavya, very well directed. Also, the way Kaavya tries to extract information or reach out Siddharth using her body, as she says 'main woh har kaam karti hoon, jo mana hai'.

Also, that scene is spectacular where Kaavya replies in the tone of Siddharth 'tumhi se seekha hai maine'.

The transformation of Kaavya into a prostitute I felt happens too quickly, just a scene or two would had made it look better.

The writing could had been finer as the concept of a girl seeking revenge by becoming a prostitute was very nice one.

The dialogues are good, one of my favs 'Kisi ki zindagi barbaad karni ho toh usse zinda rakhna zaroori hota hai, maut toh tabaahi se bacha leti hai'.

Editing is nice. Background score is okay.

The songs are decent, I liked Raat mainly because its kept at a time when Kaavya is a journalist, and at a place where she would one day be as a prostitute. Mahe jaan and Dil kaanch sa are okay.

Gulshan Devaiya is a excellent actor.. its 3rd time in a row when I really loved his acting. Yes, the stammering part I didn't like but the other side where he is a complete bastard to the people who fucks with him was so well portrayed. He comes off as a very confident actor, which is visible in his acting.

Paoli Dam was good in her debut, she played the prostitute part very well. Also, she looked very beautiful in that saree scene in 1st half. I like that the make-up wasn't over-used with her.. making her beauty look more real.

Nikhil Dwivedi was decent as a supporting actor. Except for the action sequence, he didn't have any dominating scene in the film.

Overall, Hate Story is a nice film with good performances.. the narration could had been better.

Verdict : NICE

Movie Analysis : Bittoo Boss

Directed by Supavitra Babul
Imdb link -> https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2347289/

Camera light pakarne se kuch nahi hota, emotion pakarna padta.

The trailers never appealed to me, it appeared that kind of film that I may not like. It turned out to be a average film, still much more than I thought it would be for me.

Bittoo (Pulkit Samrat) is a video camera shooter at marriages, very well known and famous. One of his mates who helps him in mixing and editing the work he shoots, suggests him a shortcut way of earning more money by shooting honeymoon couples through hidden cameras. Bittoo initially discards such ideas which appear bad to him, but when he has a big arguement with Mrinalini (Amita Pathak) whom he loves, and who wants him to start earning much more. Bittoo takes the path which his mate had suggested once. The rest story deals with how the chosen path changes his life in good or bad way.

There is slight resemblance of mannerisms between Pulkit and Ranveer of Band Baaja Baaraat. The first sequence of the film is completely over-done, how could a haldi ceremony be put on a hold just because a so-called video camera shooter hasn't come yet. And the girls saying 'meri le le' continuously made it very un-real to me. Maybe I haven't seen such ppl in life is one of reasons I couldn't quite connect to it.

I love the scene where Bittoo and Mrinalini have a major arguement, the fact that Bittoo wasn't ready to bow down towards rich people who aren't creative enough as he believes he is. Also, both the sequences in Shimla where Bittoo meets two different couples are very well directed.

But as a narrative, the film fails to make a mark, the writing in the final 20 mins especially is very average. Also, the dialogues become preachy in portions of 2nd half. The climax too filmy and predictable.

Kick lag gayi was the only good song in the album, and well choreographed. Rest songs are pretty average.

Pulkit Samrat delivers a good performance, thought I didn't like the looks of his character. A better film would reveal much more about his acting skills.

Amita Pathak doesn't have any screen presence, her acting is decent. Rajendra Sethi as mate of Bittoo is fine.

The guy who played the car driver in Shimla was very impressive.

Overall, Bittoo Boss fails due to a weak 2nd half and a subject thats handled in a preachy and unconsitent manner with dose of filmy sequences.

Verdict : AVERAGE

Titanic [Views]

Directed by James Cameron
Imdb link -> https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120338/

You Jump, I Jump .. Remember ?

The disaster of the ship is so huge, that I had seen lots of videos on youtube, some interviews on channels for the real incident that happened. Just like Rose says in the film, We all can glamourise or show sympathy for the people who suffered in the journey of Titanic, but only those people who survived would know the hard experience they had.

It was among the films I always wished to have seen in theatre, and the re-release in 3D made the dream come true. There's nothing great than to see a film for 1st time on big screen knowing you have already seen the film, and loved it madly.

The main plot is the well known, poor boy meets rich girl, fall in love, and then face difficulties in making their love win. Here, they have to face another major hurdle, the ship they are on named unsinkable 'Titanic' is about to sink.

James uses lots of establishing shots so that he could refer to them later on when the disaster is taking place. Like all the crew and working unit at ship shot, right from basement workers, to the captain and people assisting him. Or the scene where Rose asks Andrews, why the number of lifeboats are so less. And the Jack's flying sequence with his friend.

I like the narrative, and also I like the delay James does to take us to the love story from where it all started. The detailing of the ship is tremendous, makes me feel if this film was made in Hindi, how badly we would had failed. I haven't seen the making of the film, so not sure what was constructed, what was real and where they cheated (surely they did at many places, cant be real shooting).

I like how within 2 dialogue sequences, the life of Rose is established and Jack enters her life. The first conversation between them had to be special, and so it is as he tries to stop her from jumping though deep inside he knows she wont jump.

The use of 'My heart will go on' when Rose accepts Jack's love that leads to the 'I am flying in air' sequence is one of best scenes of the movie. I like how the same song theme is used at particular moments in the film without trying to over-do it.

How those 3 musicians are used to play music to keep the panic down, knowing no one is still not going to listen to it. Also, the various mindsets shown during the disaster by James, like some people preferred to remain inside rooms and die. One mother even tries to let her children sleep so that they dont get to see the death. One is seen praying to God, and many are shown to panic as they try to cut lifeboats resulting in more problems. Amidst all this, the crew members of ship, whose job is first to manage people into lifeboats safely with all panic around, and then look to save their own life too. One case where one captain lost his cool, killing one person and then with that guilt killing himself.

James uses just one scene of Rose mother explaining why she is so forcing her daughter into what she doesn't want. Her mother plays the high society lady not liking to see poor guy near her role very well. Also, the friend of Jack has few funny moments.. One when Jack says 'Goodbye' and he joins him. And then that 'I can see the Statue of Liberty already.. very small, ofcourse'. And Molly (Kathy Bates) who supports and helps Jack when he needs someone to teach how to be among 1st class living people on ship. She pretty much filled in the 'Mother' of Jack in the film. And her final scene, where she pleaded to captain to return to the titanic sink place, and get more people into their lifeboat which had enough space.

I don't know why Thomas Andrews (Victor Garber) death scene wasn't shown, especially when you show him so dissappointed for having made a ship which he thought won't require lifeboats when Rose inquired about it earlier in the day. His scene looking at the watch, and saying 'Sorry' to Rose was good one. I love that scene when the three musicians play one final time, and what follows is the final rise of water tearing apart all doors, and the place where 1st class people use to have parties.

The captain's misery when people come to him asking where should we go, and he just goes inside to let the death come to him. He knew his mistake, for increasing the speed of the ship having received warning of icebergs ahead, he thought ship could be turned whenever a iceberg would be seen, but that didn't happen. Also, his reply to the person who wanted him to speed up to get headlines.

Another fav scene for me is the promise Jack makes Rose take in the ending part of film which eventually gives her courage to live life.

There's one scene where Rose has to find where Jack is, after being alleged for stealing the diamond. The place is getting filled with water, and she goes to kiss her, and also while finding key get busy in conversation with Jack making him remind her 'Keep looking'. What I like about this scene is, how real it is as the emotions takes over the situation at such times. Also, when she is saying 'I love you' to Jack thinking she may die and hence should say it one last time, and Jack's reply 'Don't you dare say your goodbyes'.

Some of other good moments like the guy telling Jack 'You got enough time to remove your jacket'. The dance between Jack and Rose, the famous painting sequence and the dreadful iceberg scene.

James Cameron Direction is excellent. Very good editing. Superb dialogues. The length of movie is 3 hrs, but that never bothers me at any time.

This must had been Leonardo di Caprio and Kate Winslet first big hit film of their career (if I aint wrong). Leonardo as chocolate looking boy at that time, gave a excellent performance. Watch the scene where he has to dine with rich people, and not look nervous which he does when he reaches and observes the people there. Brilliantly acted! The one where he admits his love to Rose with all the reality in mind, the hesitation and fear feeling in the way he says it. And the final dialogue sequence. He plays the caring lover part just so efficiently.

Kate Winslet looks so thin now then she was then. Nevertheless, she was beautiful then too and a powerful actor. My fav scene when she feels helpless trying to find key for Jack, finding people to help. And the scene where she jumps out of boat to be with his love Jack. In the final scene with Jack,  she screams 'Jack' numerous times, the last scream the painful one realising he is no more. She matches completely with Leonardo's performance.

Billy Zane playing the fiance of Rose, was very good, he's mean and easily played the negative character. I like that scene where he says 'Jack, I always win.. one way or another'. And, when he looks at the painting, just about to tear apart and realizes how to make use of it. Also, that scene where he laughs at his stupid blunder 'I put the diamond in the coat, I put the coat on her.' How, he uses a small child to get a lifeboat only to find later this boat would get him drowning due to the major rush of panic with ship sinking fast.

Gloria Stuart as the 'Old Rose' was good choice by Cameron, because she hardly gave that feeling that she isn't the same person. My fav scene has to be where she throws diamond into water while standing on the railings of the ship.

Rest cast gave their good supporting performances.

I liked the idea of James to show the dream sequence of Rose where Jack and Rose meet, on the ship at the 1st class party place, where all people are present, the final kiss, all clap and the film ends.

As far as 3d effects are concerned, it was good at places. But, I ain't a fan of 3d effects. So, they didn't make any difference to me.

Overall, Titanic is a evergreen romantic movie that I love to the core. James Cameron's detailings and direction, and Leonardo-Kate performances just made the film so special. And lovely way to keep the song 'My heart will go on' at the end credits, with no visuals.

Maximum [Trailer]

Good trailer. The cast is very good, with Sonu Sood and Naseeruddin Shah as cops in main roles. Neha Dhupia and Anjana Sukhani may not be having principal roles I think. The dialogues are interesting, and Vinay Pathak is not in a comedy role for a change.

The story on politics, cops and urge to get to the top position could turn out very good if the director has used a good narrative. Would be great to see the rivalry between the cops played by Sonu n Naseeruddin. If this film is a success, then it would really benifit Sonu Sood a lot, after performance in Dabangg. For now, I am very much looking forward to this film.

"Yeh jo police ka dhandha hai, ismein bane rehne ke do tareeke hai .. ya toh top pe raho nahi toh chup raho"..
