Dev D Emosanal Atyachar Rock

"Welcome home ... "

As Chunni throws Dev onto the bed.. the background tune of Emosanal Atyachar rock starts..
Chanda is looking at Dev closely, who for her is yet another customer. The background tune is steady for now...
"Paro ... "

Dev who is fully drunk and doesnt know where he is, takes name of Paro while lying on bed with eyes closed...  The background tune which started initially comes to a total low now.
Chanda who was observing Dev till now, is a bit surprised with the name Paro, as she looks suspiciously with glass of wine in right hand and cigerette in other. The background now takes a high as the Dev chapter comes written.
Cut to, a metro which passes by the station in a second as we shift back to Dev's life post Paro marriage.
"Bharpa ek shor hai,
Pukhta hai purzorr hai ...
agg ragg jalte iske sarmaaye .. "

Close up shot of Dev sitting in a metro, completely shattered look.. as if he isnt alive, lost in his thoughts, lost in paro. The lyrics talks of his current state, a guy who doesnt have the girl whom he loved but allowed to slip away
.
"Kal mera bebaak tha,
aaj magar kamzor hai ..
khud se aankhein hi na mil paayein ... "

Cut to Mid-Shot, guy sitting next to Dev closely looking at him as he wonders what must have happened with him. The lyrics focus further on Dev's state, telling how good his life once was, and how weak he has become now that he feels ashamed in his own eyes.

"Aankhon ke aage jo hai
manzar, laava barsaaye .. "

Side profile Shot, the metro is about to stop at the station. Dev gets up and in the background a high beat instrument plays adding a new dimension to the feel of the song. The lyrics further says, that Dev's eyes portray the pain and agony of losing his love.

"Jalta hai dil, jalta hai dil ..
til til main jalta hoon .. "

Track in shot, with background at some portions kept little blurred. The anger feeling is given emphasis here in the lyrics and the way shot comes out. Dev walking past a decent crowded place. The anger feel also comes in the shot like a heart broken into pieces with the background of hard beat if noticed properly in start of this shot, which began at the end of last shot.

Same shot continued... A reference made with the crowd and time, on how much Dev suffers everyday, every minute.

"Iss lamhe ki haqeeqat .. "

Dev is still passing by a locality, the lyrics are trying to underline the truth of his current bad moment or phase of life.
"gawaara na kar paaye"

Cut to 3 twilight guys, one with a hat, two of them smoking, and all looking at someone, which we can guess as Dev.
"Jalta hai dil, jalta hai dil ..
til til main jalta hoon .. "

And the guess is right, as dev enters into the frame. He stands there for few seconds, as the guys are in his way.
"Hatt jaa re, hatt jaa re ..
pade hatt jaa re nazro se .. "

Thats what, Dev is trying to say through his body movements or signs. The twilight guys understands it, and lets him go in his direction. Again, the anger state given a major stress during this song.

"Pade hatt jaa re, hatt jaa re .. "

The twilight guys show their back, as they are watching Dev go by, just like we the audience were watching his current state in the song till now.
"Hatt jaa re, hatt jaa re ..
pade hatt jaa re nazro se .. "

We are introduced to Chunni, who also watches Dev passing by on the road. The shot initially on Chunni, shifts focus to Dev. And the lyrics continue to say, Dev wants everyone to not come in his way...

" Mere lafz ke haar jaise..
hain yaadon mein chubte jaise
aansun mere behte rehte
khoon ke, khoon ke ... "

Long shot of Dev walking towards some place, through a small area. His heart is constantly in the memories of Paro  ... The lyrics initially are used as background, as the drums on that street have high sound, gradually the sound of drums decreases and the last 2 lines of lyrics goes higher in sound.

"Khoon ke .. khoon ke "

Mid shot of Dev .. as it appears he is close to the place where he was heading to since start of song.
And finally he sits at downstairs, with a guy and girl from whom he is gonna buy some drugs. The music which was in background during start of song, is playing again, at a low pitch this time.. as the song's 1st part ends here.
"Hatt jaa re, hatt jaa re ..
pade hatt jaa re nazro se..
pade hatt jaa re nazro se .. "

Rasika says some hard words to Dev, as a result Dev gets angry further. And the perfect lyrics for the mood brings the start of Part-2 of the song.
"Hatt jaa re hatt jaa re ..
pade hatt jaa re nazro se ..
hatt jaa re .. "

Dev going from bus to metro, from one place to another. Losing his own identity, and he is just wandering away from everyone.
"Mere lafz ke haar jaise .. "

Its the same lyrics of part1 getting repeated here, as a mid random shot of a place is shown to either tell that Dev is watching a couple at some place or to highlight the place he is at is some bar or pub.

"hain yaadon mein chubte jaise
aansun mere behte rehte
khoon ke, khoon ke
khoon ke, khoon ke ... "

Cut to Dev, who gulps his glass of vodka. The music comes to a low, the place where it actually ended in Part1, but here it continues further.

"Aankhon ka hai dhokha,
aisa tera pyar ..
tera emosanal atyachar "

Cut to Paro, love making scene with only paro's face visible. Interesting thing about lyrics in this shot is that the sound is set in a way that it doesnt look to be played on paro but dev, as the sound appears to be played in the background.

"Aankhon ka hai dhokha,
aisa tera pyar ..
tera emosanal atyachar .. "

Cut to Dev who gulps another drink. And now we clearly notice the difference in sounds, as same lyrics of last shot plays here but this time its not the background.

This scene comes later in the film, which is the part3 of the song, just 1 min long not more. Dev sitting with Chunni, two shot where Chunni makes drink for Dev but he throws it in a violent way scaring Chunni, and the angst scream of 'Anurag Kashyap' plays to sneak in the last part of the song.
"Aankhon ka hai dhokha,
aisa tera pyar
tera emosanal atyachar .. "

A complete 360 degree revolve shot done on Dev, followed by shot where Dev is drunk and in a state of 'giving up totally'. As he goes to Chunni's place, to meet Chanda. The fact that he is in deeper pain after recent visit of Paro, takes a effect as he drops his wallet at the counter. The song ends, the moment Chanda comes in the frame. The lyrics which again gets repeated, but the composition of these lyrics are different than last time, as the speed is fast and rock feel is present. Anurag Kashyap avoids using the abuse present in the audio song though.

The high beat instrument used in the shot where metro is coming to a stop, remains my personal very fav...

So,thats it, a song that has way too much in its visual excellence. It had to be penned down in my blog...
