A Scorsese-Leonardo movie that fails to impress me.

Its a dark comedy based on life of Jordan Belfort (Leonardo Di Caprio) who at young age becomes successful stockbroker and earns too much money he requires, resulting in using that money over hookers, drugs, alcohol and when there's nothing else to do, just throw it in dustbin. A maniac who wants to keep earning more and more money, and live a king size life.

Till the point Belfort meets Mark Hanna (Matthew McConaughey), and have conversation in restaurant. .. the movie works with its humor. After that, with market crash, Belfort setting up his own place.. it leads to madness that mainly includes loud talking, nude sequences. Everything starts to happen in bulk, first the drugs addiction, then the party like atmosphere at work place, and then the sex addict.

I love mad movies, Pulp Fiction was one of that, and Scorsese 'The Departed' was too. The foul language doesn't bother me if its used in a movie that appeals. Unfortunately, The Wolf of Wall Street just never appeals to me, one reason is the stock market business bores me to death. Other is, director tries to do way too much.. instead of keeping some kind of balance. In a scene, Donnie (Jonnah Hill) who works for Jordan, masturbates in open party where his wife (he marries his first cousin) as he can't control himself watching Naomi (Margot Robbie), a new hot girl that has come to that party place. He even says 'I won't mind this girl giving me aids'.

Margot Robbie actually looks fucking hot, and she helps to pass over the rest of the movie to certain extent for me. Jordan's scene with her, where he desperately wants to fuck her was crazily directed.. and i liked it (they cut one scene in theatre, I guess she came out nude from her room). Then followed porn kind scenes, in one you see Jordan putting drugs near Naomi breasts and taking them in. The scene that follows after that though was hilarious, the beating he gets from his current wife.  In another scene, Jordan is shown openly grabbing a girl's breasts.  Then to go one step further, he bangs air hostesses on plane as he is too high on drugs.

Two scenes that impressed me were, Jordan indirectly tries to bribe Agent Patrick (Kyle Chandler), and when Jordan goes over a place to call someone, and his recently taken drug shows such drastic effect on him.. that was infact hilarious scene of the movie, as he tried to crawl to his car and drive it back home.

Had Scorsese not over-done nudity and drugs scenes, and maintained the craziness characters have.. the film would had worked for me. Like the scene where Donnie has to hand over money briefcase to a partner, and he indulges instead in a heated argument resulting in cops coming over arresting the other guy.

Few more funny instances, one when Mark tells Jordan that in this business, you should jerk off twice a day. Later on we see Jordan and Donnie always on drugs during work.  In a scene where Naomi's aunt tries to help  Jordan, he feels she is hitting on him and eventually kisses her. And then later when she is dead, Jordan tells Naomi we will visit her funeral later, she is dead so won't go anywhere. That is followed by a crazy ship scene.

Leonardo gives a good performance, not among his best though.. prefer to see him in clean roles. Margot Robbie impresses me most, not only does she look hot, her dialogue delivery is seductive, be it restaurant scene with Jordan, drive to home, or when she tells Jordan she gonna wear short skirts only from now on. Only two instances she shouts at Jordan, and one of those times when she keeps spilling water over Jordan was pretty funny too.

Jonnah Hill does well too in his role, as a drug addict who passes it over Jordan. I felt Matthew McConaughey should had got longer role.

The Wolf of Wall Street turns out to be one of Scorsese films that doesn't work for me in totality.  Its only bits and pieces that are praiseworthy in this 3 hr long movie.

VERDICT : 2/5 (.5 Extra for Margot Robbie)
